Internet engineers (or web developers, or SREs, or whatever else they may be called) worry about speed. They worry about how much data they need to send you (less is good), and how fast it can get there (faster is better).
It's therefore useful to know, for example, that a round-trip request between New York and Seattle takes at least 38ms (an absolute eternity in web terms), just due to the speed of light. In other words, if you're Amazon, you're gonna want to put some servers nearer to NYC.
There's lots of other stuff on here -- download times for different bandwidths, a breakdown of how much downtime you're actually promising if you're "five nines" (5m13s a year--good luck!), and the most useful portion of the CIDR table.
You might know someone who works on an app or a website. Heck, you might even *be* one of those people. In that case, they/you could do much worse than drink your fifth on-call emergency cup of coffee out of The Internet Engineer's Handy Mug.
